5 tips for calm interior styling
Maybe you see it all over the internet, all those beautiful pictures passing by with the calm interior and where all the books & decorations are just right. As soon as you try to arrange that bookcase yourself in that same way, it suddenly looks busy or cluttered anyway. Or when you start decorating your living room with all your stuff and it still doesn’t make sense. No worries, with these 5 tips you can create that same calm look!
1. Choose a neutral color palette
Make sure there are not too many different colors present. Different shades can look cluttered. Choose rather 1 color with different shades and go for the ton sur ton effect. This will ensure that you get a whole feeling with different shades.
2. Ensure tidy spaces
There is nothing as disruptive to a space as having junk everywhere. So make sure you store things neatly. You can do this, for example, with nice baskets for your children's toys or in nice baskets in the closet with loose items.
3. Make triangles with your items
Put items in a triangle shape creates a nice harmony. Here you can work with differences in height or just stay at the same height. The textures and varieties of the objects are the key.
You can do this with smaller objects as well as the layout of the space. Always make sure your furniture is not directly against the wall. With small objects, make sure they don't touch the edge of the table.
4. Avoid overusing patterns
A floral pattern can be nice, but not if you have 5 different patterns. You can use a pattern, but choose a slightly chunkier pattern instead of small frills.
5. Use different textures
A space really comes into its own when you use different textures. For example: your wall in concrete cire look, a sofa made of linen, a plaid made of wool, a decorative pillow made of woven textile, with a wooden table and a nice rug.
